Napa Cabbage Sesame Ginger Salad
Napa Cabbage is my favorite type of cabbage. It's mellow, not as bitter and coarse as other cabbage varieties. It is a cruciferous vegetable high in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties.
Benefits of Napa Cabbage
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is widely known for its immunity benefits, but your body does not store Vitamin C. Regularly consuming foods with high levels is important for your immune system and helps in receiving all the benefits. In addition, the high levels of Vitamin C found in Napa Cabbage can help fight infection and can also inhibit inflammation and free radicals.
Vitamin K
Napa Cabbage is rich in Vitamin K, which is most known for helping to promote healthy, strong bones. Vitamin K increases the amount of protein that is required to maintain calcium in your bones. In addition, vitamin K helps promote healthy blood clotting and boosts brain function.
Improves Gut Health
Fiber is important to maintain regular digestion. Because our bodies do not absorb it, when fiber passes through our bodies it takes toxins, waste, fat and cholesterol with it out of the gut.
Napa cabbage has both soluble and insoluble fibers. Soluble fiber slows down digestion by dissolving in water. Insoluble fiber speeds up digestion because it does not dissolve in water. It pulls everything with it and helps alleviate constipation.
Most commonly napa cabbage is associated with Kimchi. However, when it is raw it has a much milder flavor than regular cabbage, which can be peppery. Napa cabbage can complement many flavors and is a great addition to your recipes.
