Aloe Vera - Super Fuel for Your Gut
What is a natural remedy for constipation, diarrhea, reflux, bloating, and GI inflammation?
Aloe Vera.
Aloe vera stimulates motility of the gut, relieving constipation. It also reduces irritable bowel, diarrhea, and colitis while soothing gut inflammation and eliminating bloating.
There are 75 nutrients in an aloe vera plant, including Vitamin A, C and E. These three are especially great for fighting free radical damage and reducing inflammation.
Aloe is also one of the only plants that contains vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 deficiency is one of the leading nutrition deficiencies in the world. It plays a role in many different bodily functions and is especially great for your mood, memory, energy, and digestion.
Gut Health:
In traditional Indian medicine, aloe vera was used to treat constipation and other digestive and gastrointestinal issues. Aloe juice helps with maintaining the water content in your intestines. This relieves constipation by promoting the elimination of stool.
Aloe juice is also a natural remedy for poor gut health. If you are prone to reflux, gas, bloating, diarrhea or constipation, these are all symptoms of poor gut health, and aloe juice can help relieve it.
You can make your own, or you can find it at most grocery stores. Be mindful of what you are buying. Avoid preservatives, like sodium benzoate. Also, the filtration process can affect the aloe, and it can lose the presence of many active ingredients. My favorite brands are Lily of the Desert and Lakewood.
When shopping for aloe vera juice, you'll see whole plant or inner fillet.
Whole leaf aloe vera juice contains the bitter components of the rough outer skin which are beneficial for our digestive tracts. The inner filet is free of the laxative that is found in whole-leaf varieties.
Aloe juice is easy to mix into your regular diet. You can mix it into smoothies, drink it by itself or mix it into a juice. Start with 1-2 TBSP of aloe vera juice daily. You can work your way up to 3 oz daily.
